Experience

There is a good reason why Julia Higgins is listed in the top tier of the 2025 Doyles Legal Guide and identified as one of the “Preeminent” Leading Family & Divorce and Parenting & Children’s Matters Lawyers for Tasmania. Julia has extensive experience in advising clients and providing high quality advice in all areas of Family Law including financial, parenting, child support, maintenance, and divorce. Julia is dedicated to obtaining the best possible result for every client that she represents. Her passion for law is exceeded only by her passion for stiletto heels.

Julia is aware of the emotional and financial stress of separation and litigation and is committed to providing clients with options to resolve their matter via mediation and dispute resolution. However, should it be necessary, Julia has extensive court experience as a Solicitor and often appears as Counsel in complex litigation in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. Julia is regularly appointed as an Independent Children’s Lawyer in extremely complex parenting disputes.

As if that is not impressive enough, not only does she head our Family Law team, in 2023/2024 Julia was the President of the Law Society of Tasmania, is a former Chair of the Family Law Practitioners Association (Tas), a former Commissioner for Tasmania Legal Aid which provides legal assistance to struggling Tasmanians and a member of the Board of Legal Education.
